Looking forward to the release of issue #4 of Proximity, "The Remedies Issue." Here's a short article I wrote about Printed Matter (the New York-based artist book wonderland) for issue #3, "The New Issue."

we tell ourselves stories in order to live

Virtual book club is currently the highlight of my inbox. Besides reading, we also take photos of reading or photos of certain things we read or photos of ceramic cats perched atop books. I suspect it'll transition into a virtual cat club soon.

Today Chicago's all springtime wonderful, and I am so into it. You can tell it's spring f'real cause impromptu Old Town School of Folk Music jam sessions start happening around the Square. The park becomes a practice room for beginner banjoists and intermediate guitarists and maybe even a seasoned dulcimerist or two to mix things up. "This Land is Your Land" forever now.

Back in Chicago, Kim had a BD and Sara hosted Potato Night. Here's a photo of what I think would be a really cute catering company.

Happy Birthday to my sister-soulmate.

Hope your day is a celebratory mix of...

...and sun-sponsored R&R.

…I once again revert to my covenant with Mystery, and respond to the emergence of Life not with a search for its Design or Purpose but instead with outrageous celebration that it occured at all. (—a little extistential insight poured straight from the pitcher o' Sacred D.)

city of feeling, city of fact

Hello, April. Where did you come from? Since I last updated this thing: Story Wk. (Etgar Keret!), 30th birthday parties, digging out the bike, progressive sunshine, regressive snow, catching up with ppl, springing forward, fake computer crash, story starts, the North Side, the wee hours, missing Mary, the wonder of completion. March went fast! Other ppl took pictures of it:

Been researching Chicago writers for a PIL Armchair Reader and am eager to read more of their wks. Stumbled upon these literary images of the city. Just saw there's a previously unpublished Algren story in this week's Reader. WORD.

Lucy carried in her mind a very individual map of Chicago: a blur of smoke and wind and noise, with flashes of blue water, and certain clear outlines rising from the confusion. ... This city of feeling rose out of the city of fact like a definite composition,—beautiful because the rest was blotted out. (Willa Cather)
